START WITH A CLEAR QUESTION

Which surfaces and preparation steps does my painting quote actually cover?

Painting prices need measured paintable area and an assessed preparation scope; underlying moisture rectification is not assumed to be included.

01

A discussion of walls, ceilings, trims and other surfaces proposed for treatment.

02

Identification of visible surface concerns for assessment, including cracks, peeling and moisture-related marks.

03

A preparation and paint-system specification appropriate to the assessed surface and intended finish.

04

Colour coordination and clarification of protection, cleanup and handover items included in the proposal.

THE CHOICES THAT SHAPE YOUR SCOPE

Decide the details.
Build the right brief.

01

Define the painting area

List walls, ceilings and any other surfaces separately. Ask how openings and differently treated surfaces are handled in the measurement.

02

Separate repairs from decoration

Record visible surface concerns for assessment. Identify any underlying rectification separately from preparation and the final paint finish.

03

Choose a product system

Compare the specified preparation, primer and finish coats together. Review colour and finish choices in the lighting of the intended room.

OPTIONS FOR YOUR HOME

Choose what
works for you.

Fresh painting

New or extensively repaired surfaces need a preparation and primer specification suited to their condition. Finish selection comes after the substrate is assessed.

Repainting

Check the existing coating for adhesion, flaking and visible defects. Sound surfaces and damaged surfaces need different preparation; repainting is not automatically a full replastering job.

Colour and finish

Compare matte and sheen finishes, cleaning needs and samples in your room. Texture and accent walls should be specified separately from ordinary wall painting.

FROM BRIEF TO HANDOVER

How the work comes together.

  1. Inspect walls and ceilings; record surface conditions and what needs separate repair.
  2. Agree colours, sample areas, paint products, surfaces and the coating specification.
  3. Protect floors and retained furniture; prepare surfaces for the selected system.
  4. Apply the specified primer and finish system, allowing the product’s required drying intervals.
  5. Review coverage and touch-ups, remove protection and agree the final walkthrough.

MAKE THE SCOPE VISIBLE

Understand the quantities.

Illustrative measurement: a rectangular room 12 ft × 10 ft with 9 ft wall height has 44 × 9 = 396 sq ft gross wall area. A 7 × 3 ft door and 4 × 4 ft window total 37 sq ft. If these are deducted under the agreed measurement method, walls equal 359 sq ft; the 120 sq ft ceiling is a separate item. This is a quantity example, not a price or site estimate.

Agree the boundaries

Ask for separate lines for major plaster repairs, damp-source treatment, wallpaper removal, wood/metal finishes and furniture moving. Specify protection and cleanup responsibilities. Painting alone does not repair a leak.

UNDERSTANDING THE BUDGET

What affects the cost?

  • Measured paintable surface area and the agreed treatment of openings, ceilings and trims.
  • Existing finish condition and the extent of preparation, repairs or removal required.
  • Specified product system, number of coats and any decorative or specialist finish.
  • Access height, furniture protection, occupied-home constraints and cleanup responsibilities.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Your next questions.

Can I book only painting or a festive repaint?

Yes. Enquire about a single room, selected walls or a whole-flat repaint in Mumbai. Share the current surface condition and your preferred completion date. Timing is confirmed after reviewing preparation, drying intervals and access.

Is painting measured using the apartment carpet area?

Carpet area describes floor space. Paintable area concerns the surfaces being painted, so the two are not interchangeable. Ask the proposal to state its measurement basis and identify included walls and ceilings.

Will painting solve a damp patch?

A fresh finish alone does not establish or fix the underlying cause. The source needs assessment, and any rectification should be separately identified before the finishing scope is agreed.

How do I compare two painting quotes?

Compare the same surfaces, preparation, products and coat specification. Check protection, repairs and cleanup, then review exclusions. A lower rate may represent a different scope rather than a saving on equivalent work.
